REMEMBER

Oh man it is November already!!! Where is the time going???

So this past week or so (I guess it's more than that) has been awesome!! 
We have been teaching our investigator (I will forward you a picture of us and him and his mom) and that has been going great!!! He is so ready for this message and is soaking everything up like a sponge. We have been meeting with them almost every day and he is getting ready for baptism.

He is wanting to go to the Temple as soon as possible and Bishop said that he could the Priesthood within in a week and so it is looking like I will be able to go with him to do baptisms in the Temple before I go home!! Which is super awesome. His mom is coming along great. We had lesson last night with the Relief Society President Sister Nielsen and it was great. She talked about Visiting Teaching and she accepted to be a visiting teacher and to be visit taught!! How cool is that!! This family is so ready and they want to be involved and stay involved...so cool to watch them grow and learn and have things brought to their remembrance...

Other than them there is not to much else to talk about. We had a mission conference on Monday with Elder Andersen from the 2nd quorum of 70 and his wife and that was so cool. Really long day but there was a lot talked about and a lot that was learned. I was going to bring my notebook to share some quotes from the meeting but alas, I forgot it, and I have a companion otherwise I would just go and grab it but oh well...I will just share it in 3 weeks or so haha :)

SO not to much going on. Studies are going great. I have started going through the Seminary Teachers Manual for The Book of Mormon with a clean copy of the Book of Momron and writing in all of the notes and descriptions from the manual into the book, which is helping a lot better understand what is going on and the meaning behind everything that is happening. 

Also!!! I am going to LDSBC - I start 14 Jan 2015!!!  Hello UTAH!!!

Missionary Work - Preach My Gospel 101

Hello everyone out there!!! So we had an amazing week this week and the reason of the amazingness is outlined in the stories below.

So this week has been an amazing one!! 

• We are still teaching the same young man and we had a couple great lessons with him this week. The coolest one was the fact that we had a Temple tour and a baptism to attend planned out for him on Saturday and he came to both of them with his mom too - and they had a blast going! They loved the spirit they felt at the Temple and the same with the baptisms. He said that the baptism took a lot shorter than he thought and that he was looking forward to his on the 22nd of November. We mentioned that we needed to get a certain amount of lessons in before his interview and baptism and they said to have us come over everyday!! So we have a set lesson with them Tuesday-Friday until his baptism. His mom is so excited he is wanting to do this. She wants him to go on a mission (We will be discussing it after his baptism, and she wants him to get to the temple, get married in it and have a happy Mormon family)!!! It is so awesome to be apart of it all and to be able to close out my mission with such a solid person being taught, baptized with someone else coming back into the church. He is integrating perfectly with the Young Men and even helped set up and run games at the ward Halloween party!
• Last night we went over to a members house who said one of the kids living with them had a lot of questions about the church and was interested in talking with us. He is interested in anything about God.  We talked and taught him about the Plan of Salvation and he loved the sound of not just a Heaven and a Hell, but that there are "More options" to make sure everyone is happy and where they deserve. So the work is picking up and going great, it is an amazing opportunity to be a part of it all. 

So as you can see great things are continuing to happen here in the Lake Forest Ward!!! I am excited to say I will be staying here for my final 6 weeks of my mission which will be so awesome!! I will have the blessing to continue to work with people that I have mentioned and other people that the Lord has in store for us to find. It is always a long road on a mission, but it is people like these that make all of the tough times worth it. 

In my talk yesterday, I must say, as far as Church sacrament meeting talks go, It was pretty much awesome (Said with much Humility)!!!!  I went a little over my time (20 Minutes, not 20 over, total of 20 assigned 15) so yikes! Lots of people came up and said how good it was and how much they enjoyed it. I had 2 people ask for copies of it!!!   One girl came up after 2nd hour and started talking about how the week was. How she found some stuff out that kind of just make it tougher to go through each day. She mentioned she did not want to come to church today. She then said how glad she was that she came because of the fact that she "felt" my talk was given directly to her. She said she could truly feel that Christ was capable of being in her life and that He knew exactly how she was feeling and was there for her. It was one of the most powerful moments since being out, actually have someone tell you that you answered a concern they had because you had the ability to follow the spirit and be guided and directed to put the things in and talk about and elaborate on the things the spirit guided you to. So that was just a really awesome moment and one that I for sure will not forget...

Anyways there is not to much to report on. I hope all is going well for all of you and hope miracles happen for you this week. I started this thing to help keep me focused this last transfer called the 42 day countdown.  I had missionaries write down a challenge for me to complete everyday (Missionary related or not) and today was the first day. The first challenge (Actually applies to every monday of the transfer) is to get up and study from 5:00 am to 6:30 work out from 6:30 to 7:00 get ready from 7:00 to 8:00 then normal studies from 8:00 to 10:00. I did it this morning and I actually really liked it. I am so awake right now and I got awake super quick. I am going to try and do it every Monday Wednesday and Friday, and hopefully by the time I come home I am doing it everyday. My goal with it is 5:00 am to 6:00 am work out 6:15 to 6:45 Shower get ready 6:45 to 7:00 make breakfast and 7:00 to 8:00 eat and have studies. So we shall see what happens and hopefully I am in the habit when I come home.

Anyways this week was awesome!! We picked up a new investigator and set a baptismal date with him for the 22nd of November, so week 4 of next transfer, so if all goes well! He is such an awesome kid. It's a Mom and Son - He loves it all and is soaking it all up. More updates to follow and hopefully all continues to go well!!!

From an excitement stand point that is about it. Not to much else to say.

In response to fathers email, I am freaking out a little bit so thank you for the email, it really did help a lot. I know how much you have done for me and I know how much will continue to do, so Thank you so much for all of that. My plan for school is as you know end up transferring to a school with a good business program, so I have 2 years to think about it. We will cross that bridge when I get there.  I miss you a lot and cannot wait to be able to watch sports and stuff with you!!

Mom response- I feel like something weird is going on and you have something planned. Let's make sure it isn't to crazy :) I like your counsel about not using the phone in sacrament meetings, I really do. There is a guy in our ward who is a regional manager over Vivint, covers the whole western part of the united states, and he turns his phone on Airplane mode (Can use scriptures and all of that but no txt or calls) and he keeps it like that all Sunday so no one from work can get a hold of him, then he just goes in 2 hours early on monday to address anything he needs to. Thought that was a really cool thing to do, you not going to straight up not ever use it, but use it wisely. Glad to hear all is going well and that you sound happy. :)

All in all things are going great. I am loving the missionary and the area. Transfers are a week from tomorrow so we will find out on Saturday night if I stay in Lake Forest for my last transfer or if I get moved somewhere for my last one. So we shall see. Anyways I love you both so much and thank you so much for all you do. I really do appreciate it so much!! Love you always!!

Teaching the Gospel is a Miracle happening...

Hey family hope all is going well for you this week and that you had a wonderful Sunday experience yesterday!! :) This week ended up being really good for us and we had a lot of fun and saw of cool things come about.

We spent the first few days of the week going through and sharing the flyers for the Meet the Mormons movie to the members in the ward, it was really fun to see how excited a lot of the members were for this movie to come out and how excited they were to share it with their friends, it turned out being an awesome experience and one that I am sure will help bring a lot of people into the church at least give a better understanding.

Friday we had a cool experience stopping by former investigators.

• We stopped by and he was super excited to see us and ask us to come in to his home. We sat and talked for a little bit got to know each other and he said he would love to have us over for lessons, so we set up that appointment I am grateful and super excited to discuss the gospel of Jesus Christ with him. He was raised Roman Catholic and in his religious journey, he has come back to this faith as his true religion and in that religion it is written down the apostasy didn't happen and is having a hard time accepting that it truly happened, so we shall see. 
• The other cool experience was this former member. We stopped by her house and she was super excited to see us too.  She still remembered the missionaries that started teaching her like 5 years ago, so that is impressive. She told us that she wanted to have us over and set up an appointment for a lesson.
  

The ward is going good, we are working hard and doing all we can to work our butts off to show the ward we are working and doing the things necessary to bring our own people to church and into the waters of baptism. So, hopefully as we pick up our own work the ward will start to come out to play too and help us, but we wont be waiting for them, we are just going to go and see great things happen I know it!!!

Example of giving a priesthood blessing to someone who is sick

• Last night we had this awesome experience, we were walking around at about 7:30 and as we were going back to the car a thought ran through my mind lets go see someone and the name was specific.  It is night time on a Sunday good criteria for at least a "hello!" - we have not been able to catch this guy for 2 months almost. While we are walking around we come across a man with 2 kids walking around and so we go and talk to him, and offer him a Restoration pamphlet which he takes and we continue on our way. We see the door to this guys house that we have been prompted to go see and it is open, we knock with no answer, we then ring the door bell and about 25 seconds later (we usually leave at 30) a girl comes to the door. She's like elders how are you? we are like oh hey we are looking for so and so. She is like "Oh yeah he is my Father-in-law, he is out walking my 2 kids (remember the pamphlet guy, that was him) but you have the right house." Thank you for coming and She goes on to say "My husband has been really sick all day and I have been asking to get a blessing but he hasn't accepted, but now that you are here could you give him one?" We of course respond; we can, so we go in, give him the blessing, after we are done he says to his wife, How did you get a hold of the missionaries? She says honestly I didn't,  they just stopped by looking for your dad. So he said "elders tell your families thank you for supporting you because you are answering prayers and helping a lot of people." It was a really cool experience especially after a testimony meeting talking about following promptings, it was just so awesome to see it all play out and to look back on all the things that had to happen to get us to where we were at that time. 

Anyways not to much else to report on for the week. Miracles are going to happen I just know it!! You FAMILY are the best and I know Heavenly Father has a work for me to do as I close up my mission. Have a great week and know how much I appreciate all you do for me!!

Service Atonement and Teaching

Again, not to much to report on from this last week. The companion is going okay, lots of stuff going on but I don't want to bag on it to much. Uhm....We are teaching members and that is fun! Always a awesome chance to be in the members home and get to know them and who they are and how they got to where they are. 

“O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him will all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.” Doctrine & Covenants 4:2

Uhm...We had a service project this morning, we are in the process of pulling a stump out of the ground, it is a Palm stump that is about 2 feet in diameter and we have 4 shovels, a pick, 2 dull axes and a hack saw. So it will be a long process to get the thing removed out of the ground. But it should be fun, I miss doing manual yard work and stuff like that, something I am surprised that I miss from back home, actually getting to go out and work in the yard.

Yeah honestly cannot think of anything. You know whats crazy, I have 15 weeks left hahaha!!!  the only reason I know that is because I am starting my 15 week study of the atonement and so it will be done the day before I go home. Yeah, nothing else to report on ... parents, again sorry, I will work on taking better notes and bringing them with me to use when I write home this next week, I just don't have anything to report on really so I don't want to bore you with a break down of each day. New Area New Campanion

Well, this has been a fun week for sure. 

Some quick updates:

I am in the Lake Forest Ward Rancho Santa Margarita Stake

Foothill Ranch is in the district

• Dropped Elder Peterson off at Airport. It was really sad, I cried as he left, we were really close friends. Hard to see him go but excited to continue to serve as hard as he still wanted to. 
• Sadly after 1 year I have been released as a District Leader ( But it is nice because now I can put full effort into the ward without having to worry about problem missionaries/problem areas). 
• My companion is Elder Sawatzki (So the ward is going to have lots of fun with our names) He served a service mission and trial mission so with that time added together he will only serve 13, months in the field so he comes home with me, we are thinking we are going to be companions until we go home but working as if we are not. 
• President Orgill lives in my ward boundary
• I am super happy, happier than I have been in a long time and looking forward to serving here in this ward.
• Tender mercies if you want to call it in this area (live in brand new apartment, central heating and air, full-time car, washer/dryer in apartment, obedient hard working companion)
• This transfer is going to be a good one, really looking forward to it and looking forward to all of the miracles that will be in store for the two of us.
• Oh we share the ward with Sisters Sister Poulson (2nd Transfer Out) and Sister LaFleur(3rd Transfer Out)

Okay so that is the update for me, life is going good. This last week has been a really good one. Got to meet a lot of the ward members and everyone seems super nice and the missionary mindedness is picking up!  The Bishop is really pushing the missionary efforts, it is actually really nice and awesome to have the support from the ward. Our investigator dropped us yesterday.  It's always sad to see them reject the gospel in its fullness.

I dont have my notes with me so not 100% sure but it reminded me that we can ask for things and if they are the will of the Lord they will happen if we do our part to fulfill them.

It just reminded me to be specific when asking for things if you want specific answers, if you are general and basic then you will get general and basic answers.

It was just a cool thought that I had this morning and helped me realize what I needed to do to help the work progress and my own personal self progress.

Working Together to...

LISTEN * FIND * TEACH

Would you like to hear about a missionary who was prompted to make a wise choice? He was new in the work and was assigned to labor in the city of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, with a veteran missionary as a companion. They called at the home of a family by the name of Pollard. They knocked, and Mr. Pollard let them in. He invited them to present their material. After he had heard their message, and after he had prayed with them, it seemed as though the spirit of the adversary came over him, and he became angry with the elders and told them to leave and never come back again. As he showed them to the door, he said, “You can’t tell me that you really believe Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, anyway.” The door slammed shut. The two dejected missionaries walked away.

This young missionary turned to his senior companion and said, “We didn’t answer Mr. Pollard’s question.”

The senior companion explained the futility of attempting to return. But the young elder said, “I’m going back. I won’t feel right until I do.”

They returned to Mr. Pollard’s door and knocked on it. He opened the door and said, “I thought I told you fellows to leave.”

The next decision took all the strength of character and all the fortitude that this young man could muster, for his senior companion did not give him much help. I heard Mr. Pollard himself describe the experience. He said, “That missionary looked me in the eye. He hesitated for a moment, and then said, ‘Mr. Pollard, as we left your home, you made a statement that we really didn’t believe Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Mr. Pollard, I want you to know that I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and that this work is true.’”

After this declaration, the missionaries departed. Mr. Pollard later told me that all the rest of the day and that evening he kept hearing those words echoing through his ears: “I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know it. I know it. I know it.”

The next morning he telephoned the missionaries and asked them to come back. They returned to his home and taught him the gospel. They taught his wife the gospel. They taught his children the gospel. All became members of the Church. If you could have accompanied me to the district conference I attended a few years back and heard this man stand on his feet and thank his Heavenly Father for the choice that a young missionary made to return and to bear his witness, you, my brothers and sisters, would be forever anxious to “choose the right when a choice is placed before you.”

We need not feel that we must be without fault in order to receive the blessings of God. He will take us from where we now stand if we will come to him. He will build us up, spiritually, and he will build us up with confidence in ourselves.

I testify that when we choose to do that which is right, the results of our choices will bring joy and happiness to our souls, for the Lord has told us,

Transfers Tomorrow I'm Outta Here! :( off to a New and Different Area

From July 28th

 -- It has been a really good one and as always, love being out here on the mission. 

This has just started week 6 so this coming Saturday will be the day we find out if i stay in Newport First ward another transfer or if i get moved around. I am hoping to be staying here in the ward again, I really love it and I feel like there is still stuff to do out here that isn't finished yet so we shall see what happens this coming week.

Church yesterday was really good. In PEC we were talking about how to get Home and Visiting teaching up and help the members realize the importance of it. One guy (the HPGL) said just to pull everyones recommends that are not currently doing home teaching/coming to their meetings. A little harsh I thought but understandable amidst the frustration. Then we came to the idea of why don't we just put up a list of everyones home and visiting teachers so everyone can see who they are supposed to be taught by and everyone knows who they are supposed to teach and post the list outside the chapel for everyone to see. So we all loved the idea of this and it will be implemented this next Sunday, I am excited to see what will happen in regards to this and if this actually gets people up and moving and working on a problem that clearly has a huge down play in all wards in the church, every ward I have served in has low home and visiting teaching reports so who knows maybe this works, maybe it lights the fire underneath some people. I love the accountably of it all.

Other than that no real cool stories at all to share with the family. We are doing great, I love it out here. It is exciting to see the Lord working in my life so that through me he can help other of His children that are in need of help. I hope you all have a great week ahead. 4 August ....

So Sadly today I report;

•  I am getting transferred...
• also sadly my companion is as well. Yep! they are moving both of us and bringing in two different elders to fill our spot. We are pretty bummed and sad and so is the ward. Church yesterday was a really sad day. Six months in a ward and you really come to love the people and feel part of their family.
• Another thing that is upsetting is for the last 6 months I have been here not one ward activity, nothing. :( Guess what? in a week and a half they are having their annual ward summer party...  :( Super sad, but whatever!  I have realized that the Lord puts you where he needs you when he needs you and for how long he needs you so this is all part of the plan and we need to just accept it and move on.  Nothing I can do about it and it cannot really change at all. 
• The week has been a good. We taught more than normal which was fun and made the week go by really quickly which is a blessing in disguise because week 6 usually goes by really slow so it was nice to see it go by quickly. 

We had a really cool missionary themed fireside last night with members from the stake and it was really nice. President Orgill and President Silve (Stake President) talked and the mission choir sang, so good.  Anyways so it was a fun experience to get go to that and listen and just feel of the spirit. I think that is the most interesting thing being out here, I have grown to truly notice the Spirit when I have it and when i do not have it, it is an interesting thing and hopefully something i can continue to develop and keep as i go home.

Another cool thing that happened at church yesterday was a lady came up to us and she said "I forgot to get money out (She usually gives us $5 every time we see her) and she was like I'll will just double it next week". We responded with "oh it's no problem but we wont be here next week we are getting transferred".  Gotta love Newport and the giving attitude the people have and the fact they give and help out here so much. So that was just an interesting thing, not something I will miss, but it has been a blessing because it always helped out in the long run, tender mercies and lots of blessings, all of us should continue to give, what goes around comes around. DO SERVICE, whatever you can when YOU can.

Connections

Hello everyone!!!   so for this week, let's see what to update you all on? ...

Saturday I had an interview with President Orgill, it went really well, love talking to him and getting advice and counsel. He told me that we could start working with members in the ward on facebook, so I was like sweet! and later that day went and added 10 members as friends, and then Sunday morning he texted and said "actually though in pondering and prayer keep doing facebook without the members as 'facebook friend'". hahaha!!! I replied awkwardly; "we are already friends with some and have mentioned it to others"  President was like "okay, I guess it is okay with the people you have already mentioned it to". So that was fun!  Social Media contact program is going well. You just never know how or when that connection will be made!  In other news...We got dropped by both of our investigators this week. One of them said they would "call us" when they wanted to talk to us and to not stop by anymore or have communication with them.

 So that is sad, it is a lot different when someone tells you they are done instead of you praying and fasting about if you should drop them and then drop them. It is a lot like dating I guess!!!  easier to get over if you are the one that ended it. So we are back to square one.

Anyways, I love it here in the ward still. We have a volleyball tournament today for the whole mission so I will have pictures for that later in the week. 

I love you all so much and thank you for the prayers and love and the sacrifice being made for me being out here, it is much appreciated. Keep up the good work and keep doing all you do. Reunions, Concerts, Service and Proselyting - the Life of a Missionary

GROUP PICTURE TIME!

Well this week has for sure been a good one. 

It started out on Wednesday when we went over to Tiffany's house for a lesson, it was a really good time and we had the opportunity to share a message with her about how to gain answers to prayers and what we need to do when we get the answers. She liked it and informed us that she is still reading from the Book of Mormon, in the beginning stages of Alma and taking notes as she read, so that is awesome to see that she is still doing that. We are planning on meeting with her this wednesday and hoping to get her more open minded towards baptism and coming to church. She really likes the whole "Easy Religion" of Mariners (Born-Again) and so it is a tough battle to fight but in the end, the truthfulness of the gospel should win out. 

Elder Sobczak carries Cholula Sauce in his backpack, and used the last few drops at dinner and so we replaced it today at church

The concert thing that we had this last thursday and friday were awesome. Had so much fun, the fun was mainly from getting to help set up all the light and sound stuff for the show, the show was fun but all the other stuff was way more fun. I had fun doing it and all but I realized that if i was to do that as  a career I would always be on the road and never at home, which would make it hard to have a family. And so it just kind of solidified the fact I would love to do something like that but I want to be stationed somewhere, not moving all over the place and so a full on career in theatre would not be my cup of tea. But we had a fun time and the concert.

Proselyting has been going really well. People are asking questions, taking notice and seeing the stuff my comp and I put up so it is interesting to see who does what and who actually pays attention. We shall see what happens these next few weeks as we close up the transfer and head into August. 

Yesterday something cool happened were a guy named Steve, randomly walked into church and then stayed for all three hours. We taught him a lesson about the Book of Mormon and set up a lesson with him for tonight at 8:00 so we shall see if that actually happens. Really cool guy and it was just really cool to see that miracle happen.

Well I hope all is going well and that miracles are happening in your life. Glad to hear settling into the new house is going well and hope all of your travels are done in safety. Thank you for all you do, I got the package of yarn and knitting loom and the needle threaders, I appreciate that and have been using them in my free time.

I love you all so much, Ayris by the way those chocolate cookie/brownie things you sent  a few weeks ago were amazing, never told you that so i thought i would mention it.

He is Always There...

So this week was for sure a fun one!

We had our mission conference on Friday and oh man it was insane. I felt like I was a Young Single Adult (YSA) Party the whole night! But you know we had lots of fun and were out of the world for the Fourth of July and so that was nice. We played like "Minute to win it" games, and president gave us permission to watch the movie Son of God. So good.

So it was a nice break from the norm, but I for sure realized how much time I wasted before my mission, just sitting and watching movies/television, something I want to somewhat change when I go home. 

We are going to start working with Tiffany and Sydney again. The people I found a few months ago and had to pass off.   Well I just took them back because the other elders hadn't met with them so we stopped by and she asked when i was going to come back and meet with them, so we set up a lesson for wednesday and are hoping to start teaching the both of them again. So that should be fun and exciting. 

Uhm...what else...

Oh we as a mission are hosting a concert this thursday and friday with the mormon group Nashville Tribute Band so that should be fun. President Lutz is having me run lights and manage the set building/ tech aspects on the two days and run lights for the show so that is going to be so much fun, so excited for doing that. Every time I think I am done with theatre stuff it always comes back around...  and I'm glad it does it's going to be fun!

READ THE BOOK OF MORMON

Uhm,   not to much else to report on from the week. I was reading in the Book of Mormon in Alma 29 verses 9 and 10, (it is on my facebook page) about Christ reaching His hand towards us always. And it hit me that it is so true. He is always there, it is just a matter of are we reaching for him or are we struggling to fix our problems ourselves.
