New Area New Campanion

Well, this has been a fun week for sure. 

Some quick updates:

I am in the Lake Forest Ward Rancho Santa Margarita Stake

Foothill Ranch is in the district

• Dropped Elder Peterson off at Airport. It was really sad, I cried as he left, we were really close friends. Hard to see him go but excited to continue to serve as hard as he still wanted to. 
• Sadly after 1 year I have been released as a District Leader ( But it is nice because now I can put full effort into the ward without having to worry about problem missionaries/problem areas). 
• My companion is Elder Sawatzki (So the ward is going to have lots of fun with our names) He served a service mission and trial mission so with that time added together he will only serve 13, months in the field so he comes home with me, we are thinking we are going to be companions until we go home but working as if we are not. 
• President Orgill lives in my ward boundary
• I am super happy, happier than I have been in a long time and looking forward to serving here in this ward.
• Tender mercies if you want to call it in this area (live in brand new apartment, central heating and air, full-time car, washer/dryer in apartment, obedient hard working companion)
• This transfer is going to be a good one, really looking forward to it and looking forward to all of the miracles that will be in store for the two of us.
• Oh we share the ward with Sisters Sister Poulson (2nd Transfer Out) and Sister LaFleur(3rd Transfer Out)

Okay so that is the update for me, life is going good. This last week has been a really good one. Got to meet a lot of the ward members and everyone seems super nice and the missionary mindedness is picking up!  The Bishop is really pushing the missionary efforts, it is actually really nice and awesome to have the support from the ward. Our investigator dropped us yesterday.  It's always sad to see them reject the gospel in its fullness.

I dont have my notes with me so not 100% sure but it reminded me that we can ask for things and if they are the will of the Lord they will happen if we do our part to fulfill them.

It just reminded me to be specific when asking for things if you want specific answers, if you are general and basic then you will get general and basic answers. 

• Ask Specific 
• Work Specific
• Receive Specific. 

It was just a cool thought that I had this morning and helped me realize what I needed to do to help the work progress and my own personal self progress.

Transfers Tomorrow I'm Outta Here! :( off to a New and Different Area

From July 28th

 -- It has been a really good one and as always, love being out here on the mission. 

This has just started week 6 so this coming Saturday will be the day we find out if i stay in Newport First ward another transfer or if i get moved around. I am hoping to be staying here in the ward again, I really love it and I feel like there is still stuff to do out here that isn't finished yet so we shall see what happens this coming week.

Church yesterday was really good. In PEC we were talking about how to get Home and Visiting teaching up and help the members realize the importance of it. One guy (the HPGL) said just to pull everyones recommends that are not currently doing home teaching/coming to their meetings. A little harsh I thought but understandable amidst the frustration. Then we came to the idea of why don't we just put up a list of everyones home and visiting teachers so everyone can see who they are supposed to be taught by and everyone knows who they are supposed to teach and post the list outside the chapel for everyone to see. So we all loved the idea of this and it will be implemented this next Sunday, I am excited to see what will happen in regards to this and if this actually gets people up and moving and working on a problem that clearly has a huge down play in all wards in the church, every ward I have served in has low home and visiting teaching reports so who knows maybe this works, maybe it lights the fire underneath some people. I love the accountably of it all.

Other than that no real cool stories at all to share with the family. We are doing great, I love it out here. It is exciting to see the Lord working in my life so that through me he can help other of His children that are in need of help. I hope you all have a great week ahead. 4 August ....

So Sadly today I report;

•  I am getting transferred...
• also sadly my companion is as well. Yep! they are moving both of us and bringing in two different elders to fill our spot. We are pretty bummed and sad and so is the ward. Church yesterday was a really sad day. Six months in a ward and you really come to love the people and feel part of their family.
• Another thing that is upsetting is for the last 6 months I have been here not one ward activity, nothing. :( Guess what? in a week and a half they are having their annual ward summer party...  :( Super sad, but whatever!  I have realized that the Lord puts you where he needs you when he needs you and for how long he needs you so this is all part of the plan and we need to just accept it and move on.  Nothing I can do about it and it cannot really change at all. 
• The week has been a good. We taught more than normal which was fun and made the week go by really quickly which is a blessing in disguise because week 6 usually goes by really slow so it was nice to see it go by quickly. 

We had a really cool missionary themed fireside last night with members from the stake and it was really nice. President Orgill and President Silve (Stake President) talked and the mission choir sang, so good.  Anyways so it was a fun experience to get go to that and listen and just feel of the spirit. I think that is the most interesting thing being out here, I have grown to truly notice the Spirit when I have it and when i do not have it, it is an interesting thing and hopefully something i can continue to develop and keep as i go home.

Another cool thing that happened at church yesterday was a lady came up to us and she said "I forgot to get money out (She usually gives us $5 every time we see her) and she was like I'll will just double it next week". We responded with "oh it's no problem but we wont be here next week we are getting transferred".  Gotta love Newport and the giving attitude the people have and the fact they give and help out here so much. So that was just an interesting thing, not something I will miss, but it has been a blessing because it always helped out in the long run, tender mercies and lots of blessings, all of us should continue to give, what goes around comes around. DO SERVICE, whatever you can when YOU can.

Gospel of Jesus Christ remains the same

Okay so I will get started with the update first, I am getting moved from Alicia Park. Same thing with Elder Madsen. We are both getting moved. Always a weird experience to get moved. I have come to love Alicia Park but know that obviously the Lord is need of me elsewhere. It has been a fun last 4 1/2 months and great friendships have been made. So that is that...

Some funny things happened this week. The main one is that Elder Madsen and I were teaching the South family Wednesday night the Plan of Salvation. We were using the plan of salvation pamphlets in teaching which normally is no big deal. When I started the lesson having everyone look at the front cover of Christ coming out of the Tomb I ask them to all look at the photo. As I display it I look over at Elder Madsen and say "What the heck?" cuz he is crackin up.   What had happened was I somehow grabbed the pamphlet that had been drawn on by someone. The picture as you can see below - is Christ holding a KFC bucket and a pitcher!  Elder Madsen and I just lost it for about 20 seconds in the beginning of the lesson. Oh man so crazy, one of the most awkward moments on my mission.

Yesterday as a zone we went to this place called Big Air. Which is a giant trampoline park, it was so much fun. Little sore today but it is all good we had a blast.

A Little Prep Day Action

We had a cool experience finding a girl in a park on Saturday morning. We were walking around talking to people and this girl said she wanted to hear what we had to say. We stood there and taught her the first part of the Restoration which she really liked. She had a lot of good questions and seemed very interested. Of course we set up a lesson for later in the week in the which I will not be here so hopefully all goes well with her and the new missionaries coming along.

Somehow I have accumulated more things on my mission and so I will be sending a couple packages home today that should get to you by Friday or Saturday. Don't throw anything in the box away. Again I will sort through all my stuff when I get home and decide what needs to be kept and thrown away.

In all ways it has been a fun ride here in Alicia Park, I am glad to have the opportunity to see more of the mission and meet more people. I love the work and just glad to be out here!

Down and dirty

Hey there family!

So this week was better than the last for sure. To get it out there I am not getting transferred this time which is nice. Getting to stay in the area for Thanksgiving and  Christmas will be nice.

 Let's see what happened this week out here in the mission field???

Man again let's see...President Ellis came to our sacrament meeting yesterday which was interesting. Talked to me about some teaching ideas we are going to "pilot", then potentially introduce them into the mission starting next year, all in a hope of seeing some success! So, talked to president about all of that and he has assigned President Ellis to my "case" so to speak and will be working with me every week until the end of the year to help the ward success pick up and to help me with my companion. So that should be fun and exciting. Love trying new things, all the help is greatly appreciated.

Wednesday we helped do some yard work with the non member husband of a member. It was pretty fun, helped turn over his neighbors yard so we could put some new grass down, because the winter time here - is yard work time apparently haha! It was nice to get yard work done, good labor that I hadn't gotten to do for a while. Saturday we did some gardening which was fun, tore out weeds and dead trees and such then took some potted plants and planted them in the ground, so again nice and fun to get down and dirty doing some good 'ole yard work.  Who knew I'd appreciate doing yard work?  Jacob 5:72And it came to pass that the servants did go and labor with their mights; and the Lord of the vineyard labored also with them; and they did obey the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard in all things.

The work is s..l...o..w...l...y... picking up in the ward. Lots to do and I am pretty sure I am going to be for at least 2 probably 3-4 more transfers, president is starting the process of getting missionaries in wards and keeping them there for 6-8 months which will be really nice. There is lots of potential here, the ward just has not had the consistency that is needed to see good genuine success. So I hope to get to be a part of all of it, push through the struggles and trials to see the miracles come about.

Not to much else to report on. My trio is going from just that - to a normal companionship, so truly, pray for me. First time in 11 months I will be in a apartment with only one other missionary so I do not know how I will handle it!?! WEIRD. Not to much else to report on, I will be sending some stuff home probably within the next few weeks, "Winter Cleaning" so to speak.   Any other questions let me know, and I hope this week goes by well and that you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving on Thursday, make sure flat Amric is sitting at the table with you :) Love you all so much have a great and safe week :)

It's been awhile...

Nov 4

Hey hey family yet another week down out here In the mission field and man this actually was a pretty good week.

The fun did not really start until about Friday and then it went until last night so that is what I will give you a recap on to keep you updated. Fun thing about Friday was that my area got a full time car. Not to good for the weight loss aspect but my companions and I are dead set on not using the car that much and still walking around the streets so we can talk to people and be outside. Friday night we went to the Relief Society activity where they were having dinner and making arts and crafts. Felt a little out of place but hey, we got fed and got to hang out with the moms. Never something that I would think to be fun when I was back home but hey, out here on a mission, the moms in the ward are your best friends so you will drop anything to hang out with and become good friends.

So that was Friday.

 

 Saturday was an awesome experience because it was the baptism of Max and Jordan. Really cool, I will send the program to you so you can scrapbook it and make memories and all that Jazz!  Really spiritual experience and just cool because it was the first baptism on my mission I have been to that I actually had a connection with and taught the people being baptized. All of the other ones that I have been to are just simply to help investigators see them or because my companions knew the people. All very cool experiences but nothing compared to seeing it go from Day 1 to baptism!  Sunday I had the opportunity to go and stand in both of their circles to confirm them members of the church and confer the Aaronic Priesthood and ordain them to the office of Deacon. All very wonderful very humbling experiences, really big testimony builders! 

The rest of Saturday and Sunday other than that was pretty normal, drove over 140 miles on Saturday, was at 4 out of the 6 stake centers in the mission and drove in all 6 stakes of the mission! Driving people around for interviews with President and picking up/dropping off for the baptism.

So other than that my week was pretty low key. No real stories from investigators. I had some guy tell me his name was Bob B*****n on the street, so drunk out of his mind. He also told me that he "Transcended Reality with an Alaskan Malamut!

Stayed in the apartment from 7-9 (Mission rules) and cleaned and played board games with the companions.

Hope all is well for you out there in the real world. Heard Boston won the World Series!

Keep up the awesome work and do all you can to continually build your testimony in every way possible. The mission is going well and everything is getting worked out.

What is up my family man oh man has this been a fun and exciting week. I got all of your emails and loved hearing from you all. I want you to know that I am still dedicated and obedient to the work.

This week has been one filled with lots of walking, teaching members, and having some good wholesome fun. President Ellis approved us to go to an Elders Quorum activity where we did what??? We Watched the BYU-Boise State game on Friday night and my oh my was that fun.

Some LA members and Investigators came so it was a good opportunity for them to see us in a normal situation where we didn't focus on getting them in the water. So that was a fun break from the typical missionary work. Saturday what did we do?   ...  Oh ya - helped clean the church in the morning, had breakfast with the district at our Ward Mission Leader's house then walked around a lot. 

Later in the day we went to the Ward Trunk or treat party, which wasn't even a trunk or treat. It was in a park and people played table games. What the heck California?? That was fun though so again a great opportunity to meet people in a non threatening way.

What else?  on my way to my interview that I had with President last Wednesday I drove over a tire in the freeway in my mini van and cracked the plastic fender on the passenger side on the front so I had to fill out an accident report for that which is fun. California highway's! me and my mini van!!!!!

The mission is going good, not any investigators to give you and update on so that is about it. I am loving the work and am glad to be out here serving the Lord.Max and Jordan Raver are getting baptized and confirmed this weekend and I get to go so I will send pictures from that Hope all is going well and the adjustment to everything is going smoothly.

Oct. 15

Well hello family - my oh my has this been one crazy week down here in Dana Point California!!!! 
To start off with some sad news I am getting transferred again. The ward was pretty sad about it but had lots of people tell me to come back and visit for the holidays next year and to stay with them so that is nice. It was Weird to have come back and serve the same amount of time then leave again. I think I have figured out the reason why though - why I was sent back and it was a pretty good reason so it is all good. I am sad to leave but you know how the Lord works, he moves you where he needs you, exactly where he needs you.  Maybe that is why we move alot, we are willing to be moved?!??!!

So some updates from the week...

Elder Falabella came and visited us and we had a long zone conference with the San Clemente, Laguna Niguel, and Mission Viejo Zones and it was such a great time. Elder Falabella talked about how to best help us get more baptisms as a mission and reach our goals that we have set. He talked about the importance of being obedient to the rules and how that will help us go forward and see miracles. 

Saturday we did this awesome service project where we packaged food that is going to get sent to kids that need it.  So much fun to go and do that, met lots of non members who came to help and said that if we ever do this again to let them know because they will be more than willing to come and help out in anyway they can. 

Yesterday was a weird p-day without email or shopping because of holidays (Christopher Columbus ) and transfers so it went by pretty crazyily seeing as how I just packed the whole day. 

It's kinda been a hard last few days. Hope everything is going well in your lives and hope to hear you arrived safely back in Washington to "set up Home again"!

Deep Question:

Does God Know exactly what choices we are going to make and where we will end up or does he just know where we will end up and every possible way that could get us there but not know the exact path we will take? Question we have had a lot of debate and discussion on this lately and just wanted to see your thoughts (any of my friends and family that want to write - I'd love to hear from you!)

You See what you Expect to see!

So here I am, P-Day has been switched to Monday now!  I actually kind of like it a little more. It makes reporting numbers Sunday night way easier then before easier to plan out the whole day.

So I am sure you are all wondering where I have been assigned to serve...Well I have the answer...

DANA POINT

Yes I am back in the Dana Point ward and it feels so good to be back, feel like I have come home! The members still remember me and seem to love having me back. I am companions with Elders Belnap (Who was also trained by Armstrong) and Hair (Like the stuff on your head). It is so much fun being back here and to be training a brand new missionary. A little weird that he graduated high school about three months ago!  

We had a couple miracles happen this first week of the transfer which made it even more awesome. 

• We met this one lady who came out and started talking to us and saying how a couple of years ago she sent in a request for missionaries but she must have done it wrong because no body came. Long story short She gave us her name address and phone number and told us to come to her home to teach her. 
• The another one was we were walking around looking for a street and ran into this lady and started talking to her. She started telling us how she is trying to overcome her addiction to alcohol and was asking God for help. We started sharing our purpose with her and she asked if we were messengers from God because we were exactly what she needed at that time. We asked if we could help her with anything and she said she needed prayers we told her we would and she asked if we could pray right there. So we prayed right there on the street. She was so happy that her prayer was answered and knew it was from God and so told us that because of us she wasn't going to go to buy her beer - she did not need it anymore. So she accepted a teaching visit for later this week and hopefully we will get to set up a time to visit. 

It is always cool seeing how the Lord works his answers into our lives. We are all merely tools that need to keep ourselves sharp so we can be used at anytime we are needed. By the way that is the thought for the week, keep yourself spiritually and mentally sharp so when called upon the Lord will be able to trust you with those he has prepared.

The work is going great. Always good to be a missionary and serve the people around me. More responsibility is killing me, a lot more paperwork but it is fulfilling.

When we stop by to visit members to say hello the church members who remember me, the first thing everybody says is; "You look way thinner" or "How much weight have you lost"!   That is super cool to actually hear the fact people notice. We had dinner at the Tomlinsons last night and Sister T said "Dont try hiding back there I know you are skinny but you cant hide from me" hahaha! oh Sister T always the jokester. :)

The mission is awesome I love it and it is staying amazing and great. Keep the faith in all you do and know that I love you all very much and miss you so much. Forgot my camera and so pictures will be coming next week. Stay amazing and stay classy!

Training, Indexing and Transfers

Well well well...

Another week in the books lets start off with some interesting news from this last week:

I am getting transferred...Yes after 4 weeks of Foothill Ranch Ward I am being moved again. So you know thats fun, going on my fourth area in less than seven months who knows what lies ahead...

I got a Trainers call. Yes I will be Co-Training (So a trio) a brand new missionary or maybe 2 brand new missionaries. So that will be fun, hopefully means I will get to stay in my next area for at least two transfers. 

Oh yeah, got my District Leader cal also! So along with training a brand new missionary I will be leading a district of missionaries...So that should be a fun thing to do. 

So thats all the big news but from my end other than that the week has been going as usual.  I have come to love "Indexing" so mom be happy. There is a senior missionary in our ward who lives here and is an expert at Genealogy. SO once a week we go over and do indexing on Family Search and it is SO MUCH FUN. Love getting to feel a part of helping people find their family, where they come from and what they did. So I will for sure keep up with that during my mission and after. 

At dinner last night I found out some interesting information. So remember how BYU-I did not have a Tech Theater degree and that was one reason i did not want to go there. Well starting in the fall of next year they are introducing a BA in Theatre Arts with a bunch of different emphasis and Tech is one of the emphasis with about 20 classes to go along with it. They revamped their whole department and the whole staff from what I heard I am super excited about the degree. So this is why you never make solid plans before the mission. It all changes anyway. 

Got kicked out of a apartment complex. People really have no idea what the word "Soliciting"  means and when I try to educate them on the definition they get irritated and tell us to leave. Also telling me I cannot visit members of my congregation is irritating as well. So I have decided I am going to study their "No Trespassing" signs and know them better than they do so they cant do anything. I don't like not being able to go places because of a sign.

The ward is super sad to see me go and I am sad to be leaving. It is only four weeks since the last time I packed my bags but it has flown by. Got connected to the ward and my WML Brother Andre told me that the ward improved a lot while I was here and I really helped a lot. He said that I will be good wherever I go so I shall hopefully live up to that. I really really love this ward!

Question posed this morning by a guy we had breakfast with...

Is the Gospel about improving the quality of your life, or is it about being saved by Jesus Christ. I think they are one in the same but he thought the Gospel is only about being saved.

Also note to self: I LEARNED HOW TO SAY SOBCZAK IN POLISH!  and the guy that taught me KNOWS ELDER PETROWSKI WHO SERVED IN POLAND!!!   so this is what he said the name is pronounced So ( like "So What") B (B as in Boat) and Chak (Like "Chalk" Without the "L")

Six Month Mission Served 18 Month Mission Called to Serve

What they see at home!

Six months in the bag just like that. Oh man that is crazy to say. This past week has been super crazy and wild and hectic but it has already been a week into the new mission and it's July!!!??? Where is all the time going? 

I am currently serving in the Foothill Ranch Ward in the Rancho Santa Margarita Stake in the California Irvine Mission. Yes I know that it is a mouthfull to say. The area I am in is another area in need of fixing. I feel like that has been my calling out here so far. Help in getting the area organized and give it a specific direction for future missionaries and then -- ok -- we will transfer you! Hopefully it doesnt stay like that forever, but it has been nice cause for sure I have learned and I know exactly what needs to be done and how it needs to be done by now, of course as I heed the Spirits direction!!!  Every Area does have it's own needs!

My companion is Elder Darian Bosely from Mesa Arizona. He has just finished being trained so I am what they call "Greenie Busting" him. Basically the companion after your trainer is called that. They are suppose to break you of the bad habits your trainer gave you and help you see multiple ways of doing missionary work. The sad part though is that we will most likely be companions only until July 23rd which is our next transfer.

Speaking of that let me give you a break down of what has happened in the past week with starting as we start a new mission:

If you stayed in "Irvine" as a Carlsbad missionary you are on a 9 week transfer.

If you got transfered to "Irvine" a week ago you are only in a 4 week transfer. 

What that means in simple terms is that my mission got cut an additional three-four weeks short. So counting the week from when they shortened the MTC time I've lost I think 4-5 weeks off of my mission which sucks big time. Time was already going too quick.

We have a mission wide conference this Thursday the 4th of July from 10:30-2:00 getting to meet our new Mission Presidency. I just checked my other email to talk to President Orgill and he said on the 23rd of this month 30 missionaries will be joining our mission with lots more to come in the coming months. So this mission is about to blow up number wise.

The Newport Temple is in my mission. Hopefully this means I can attend the temple more.

HOT HOT HOT in my new area!!!!

All in all this is going to be the best time ever. President Orgill was President of the PCC in Hawaii so that should be fun and he is living in my stake so I will be seeing him around while I am here. I had it confirmed to me the other day that this is where I need to be. The Lord knew this mission was going to be made and I needed to be out in January even though I needed to serve in this mission. Missionary work is changing, it will never be the same again.

Deep thought:

I was studying the word "Order" the other day to best help the area because the area book was in no way "ordered". I got reminded of my study of Ordinance and how Ordinance went back to old Latin - into what? "Order". So think of it, being organized, having order is an "Ordinance of God".   Ponder this verse in Doctrine and Covenants 132:8 Behold, mine house is a house of ^aorder, saith the Lord God, and not a house of confusion. Without the order of the Church, Order of the Temple, Order of the Priesthood, no body would be saved. To be organized in itself is a saving ordinance. That is why we need to be organized and have order even in temporal matters because that is a reflection of our spiritual conversion to the Gospel. Hopefully that makes sense.
